Mark your calendars!  The Pumpkin Festival is back.  Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October l7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at De Anza Park in Calabasas.  This year there is a small charge for admission, but it includes all the rides and games, a fun zone, and nature show, where before you had to buy per ride or a wrist band.  I think it’s  a steal!  Pre sale tickeds are available from 9/27 to 10/11 for only $3, and at the gate they are $5 the day of the event.  Kids under 2 are free!  As always, there will be great food and drinks, including many pumpkin themed treats.  Craft booths abound as well as a car show and live music during the day.  This is one of my favorite treats of the year.  It’s a great time to see neighbors and friends, catch up with people, give local merchants some business and enjoy the beginning of the season!  See you there!  www.calabasaspumpkinfestival.com

Lovely patio for sipping coffee and reading the paper!

If you know anyone looking for a darling townhome in a great area of Simi Valley, please let me know.  I have a short sale listing at 4168 Felipe Lane #D in Simi.  Built in 2005, owned by the original owners, this two bedroom, two bath townhome is immaculate, charming, light and bright and in a fabulous location.  The home has an attached two car garage, private foyer, two balconies, wood floors, upgraded kitchen and baths, built out closets, custom blinds and colors, ceiling fans, and more.  Located close to theaters and shopping, this complex is newer and beautifully taken care of.  Let me know if you have anyone for it, it’s a dreamy little place!  Listed at $325,000.

After many years of discussion, the footbridge from Lost Hills Road to A.E. Wright Middle School is finally being built.  When training for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, my fellow teammates and I noticed some activity over the creek on the south side of Lost Hills Road.  So, I did a little research and found that it is indeed the footbridge that I always thought was destined to be an urban legend.

The bridge starts right at the stop signs by Cold Springs and Lost Hills and crosses into the school yard.  All the kids that live in Deer Springs, Mira Monte, Calabasas Views, Steeplechase and even Liberty Canyon can cut quite a bit of time off their walk using this bridge.

The plan had been in works for several years, but there were no funds for it until President Obama’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act made some federal money avilable to the city.  The bridge is due to be finished by October of this year (although, right now it doesn’t look like it) and the whole bridge “project” is due to be completed in 2011.

I have an adorable rental property in Malibu Canyon on Las Virgenes Road.  Located very close to A.E. Wright Middle School, the bark park and Starbucks, this unit is a lower level, two bedroom, two bath condo with granite counters, new carpet, and new paint. It is located close to the pool and clubhouse, it is in a quiet location.  It’s available immediately for $1700/month.  Please call me at 818-312-1024 for a showing.

Pool and clubhouse! Like a vacation all year!

For all you Halloween afficionados….Confetti, the best Halloween store ever, has opened again in the Janns Mall.

Along with her cohorts, Diki has once again transformed her enormous space into a series of little sets, costume shops, wig displays, houseware options and more.  As usual, her displays in the back are the best, from graveyards, to Louisian Bayous, a Circus (really creepy), pirate lair, operating room, hoarders home and a really scary murder set…..

In the front of the store there are plenty of costumes, lots of makeup, wigs, hats, party supplied, and a large selection fo collectibles for your Halloween stash.

Visit them at www.confettihalloween.com or email Diki with questions at diki@confettihalloweenstore.com

Their address is 193 N. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks.  Phone is 805-494-6730.

If you have a store or service that you love, send it along and I’ll post it.  Diki doesn’t even know I’m advertising her, I just love the store and it’s spirit! (so to speak).

Our neighbor David Simon, you all know him as the running man, has a company that can assist you with any computer issues. I’m here to tell you, he is brilliant! Visit his website at www.PCRunner.net and see for yourself.

Crossing the finish at 39.3 miles! Avon Walk for Breast Cancer

Last weekend, my four teammates and I participated in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Santa Barbara.  This was my fourth time as part of this huge event and as always there were may wonderful suprises, disappointments, joyful moments, painful feet and huge rewards.

The event spans two days and over 2100 participants walked either 39.3 miles or 26 miles depending on their own personal wishes.  The program began Friday night at the stunning Fess Parker Hotel on th beach in Santa Barbara with Event Eve.  This evening is all about registration, finding old friends, making new ones, talking and of course, shopping!  There are vendors there selling all kinds of fun things relating to the fight against breast cancer, most of whom donate a portion of their proceeds to the fight.  They have bracelets, earrings, bumper stickers, pins, hats, scarves, water bottles, you name it, it’s there and it’s pink.

The next morning all the participants meet at the starting point which this year was on Cabrillo Blvd, right next to the water, just south of the pier.  Treated to inspirational stories, great music and stretching excercises, the participants wait for the 7 a.m. start.  As an experienced walker, I can tell you, you need to be in the front of the pack, or you can get bogged down and wait a long time before you actually move.

From there, we walked 26 miles around Santa Barbara and through Carpinteria, cheered on by volunteers as well as just plain old people lining the routes and giving us suppost (and candy) throughout the day.  This day ended at the magnificent Polo Grouds in Carpinteria at the Wellness Village which offers, massages, stretching, yoga, and of course, SHOPPING again!  Some walkers camped that night in the Wellness Village, others caught shuttles back to their hotels, either Bacara or Fess Parker for the night.

We had all our families there, so we all shared a big dinner, some wine, some laughs, and then it was off to bed to rise again at 5:30 to catch the shuttle to the Wellness Village.  A hearty breakfast, a couple of knee tapings later, and we were off again at 7:30 for the final 13 miles.  The walk wound through Carpinteria, where we found some charming neighborhoods that we never would have seen otherwise, ending in the Sea Lion preserve on the bluffs in Carpinteria.  What a treat that was.  We finished the walk at Carpinteria State Beach, greeted by cheering families and walkers that had arrived before us.  A truly inspirational day!

There was a great closing ceremony guest, Fergie, but since we finished by 1:30 we were too tired to hang around, and after many tears and hugs, we all got in our cars and went out separate ways.

If you are interested in the this walk in the future, just go to www.avonwalk.org for more information.  I will be doing it again next year as my daughter will be 16 and eligible for the first time.  I
